About Me

About Me

My name is Sarah Forsdyke and I'm a Holistic Therapist with a passion for all things beach and sea related.

I've been collecting sea glass, shells and other beach treasures for many years and began using my creative abilities to recycle and repurpose these discarded items into beautiful artwork.

I collect from my local Essex coast and take beachcombing holidays to many places in the UK including The Isles of Scilly, The Channel Islands, Charmouth, Lyme Regis, South Devon and The Isle of Wight.

My other hobby is Mudlarking which is similar to beachcombing and I have a permit which allows me to search the banks of the River Thames at low tide.

What is Sea Glass?

What is Sea Glass?

Sea glass starts it's life as ordinary shards of glass from broken bottles, vases, ornaments or industrial waste that has entered the sea and is then persistently tumbled and ground by the waves until all the sharp edges are smoothed and rounded. The glass ends up looking like pebbles and has a smooth, frosted appearance.

The process can take 10 to 100 years to achieve!

The most common colours are white, pale green or aqua and varying shades of green and brown. The rarer colours of blue, red, purple, grey, orange, yellow and black (pirate glass) are highly prized by sea glass collectors.

Sea worn marbles and old glass bottle stoppers are also highly sought after.
